Lachenalia Unifolia-have I been ripped ff?
« on: November 15, 2009, 05:11:56 PM »
 ???
Hi everyone,
I have just rcieved by mail order (from a commercial nursery) lachenalia unifolia, as far as I know this species only produces one leaf per season but the bulbs I was sent are producing three or four each. I have read that this spcies is quite variable, does anyone know if some forms produce more than one leaf? or should I ask for my money back?
best wishes, James.

Happy ending!
I have just recieved the following email from the supplyer.....

"Hello, I have just checked the remaining stock and all have one leaf on them, except one! It seems that there may have been a rogue or two in the stock. I do apologise, a fresh plant which is clearly making only one leaf, has been sent off to you today, please retain the other if it is of any use to you, with compliments. Kind regards " :)

Thanks to everyone who posted descriptions of unifolia, I may well post photos of the "other" bulb when it grows a bit to see if anyone can identify it!

James,

Nice response from the supplier, particularly clearly stating that you're welcome to keep the other bulb with an implied hope that you'll enjoy it as well.  Much better than some of the grudging responses you can get from nurseries at times.  Good result!!  8)
Cheers.

Min winter temp -8 or -9°C. Max summer temp 40°C. Thankfully, maybe once or twice a year only.

No Mark, he is just trying to hold on to a few customers because he knows that hard times are coming in the nursery trade.
