Fraser's site lowers it to 6, at least.Fraser's site also claims that H. cyclophyllus i is zone 7, but I had one winter over last year... if it was REALLY zone 7, it's hard to imagine it lasting through even one winter (even with the snow cover we had last year). My biggest argutifolias rotted to the ground last winter I was going to dig them out but noticed heaps of new growth coming. They quickly grew back to their previous size but didn't flower. I love the foliage and don't mind not getting flowers.I have only had a few argutifolias flower.
