Updated Index and New Journal "The Rock Garden" #124
« on: February 04, 2010, 07:49:37 PM »

We are again indebted to Glassford Sprunt for his work in compiling the update of the Index of the journal of the SRGC, "The Rock Garden" which can be found via this link:

http://www.srgc.org.uk/index/SRGCIntroduction&Index.pdf

I am told that the new issue of the Journal has now been posted out so it should be arriving with you soon.

I attach scans of the cover and index pages to whet your appetite!

As ever, I'll be pleased to hear from you when  the Rock Garden  No.124 does arrive with you.... it's good to have a check on delivery times.

We've had a holdup with the delivery to the mailing house and I think the AGS bulletin holdup was with the printer..... so many outside factors conspiring to prevent us from enjoying our alpine fix!
So long as they arrive in the end, that's the main thing.... good if the arrival coincides with a wet day so we have the perfect excuse to sit in and read them, eh?!!

Maggi, the cover is breathtaking, I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Lesley, I haven't received the December Bulletin from AGS yet  :'(

I was worrying about the December AGS Bulletin which eventually arrived last week.  I assume the holdup was because it included the CD with the next installment of historical scanned Bulletins.

Its great that SRGC has been well ahead of the game with our own Journals on CD and Index.  And of course the AGS charge for their index.  Well done to all - especially Glassford !

I find it infuriating that AGS articles refer to past issues of the AGS Bulletin and I dont have them on paper.  It will still take several years to receive them all on CD at the rate of 10 years per CD per year.....

No, that's not so ... the AGS have their bulletin index online to consult freely.....

Oops, but I am sure that I saw the Cumulative Index for sale in the Publications List that came with the Bulletin.  However perhaps they do charge for a full paper version?.  I am stuck at work in my Glasgow office so cannot check this just now.

Ah, yes, you are correct in that one... paper version of full AGS Index is £10.95 (includes CD  version)

I understand from someone in the know that the AGS printer sent out the overseas Bulletins with UK second class postage. They therefore travelled by rowboat. :o

The CD was included of course but there was a note saying it was the second CD. I never received the first. :'(

The Rock Garden No 124 arrived here in yesterday's post, and I spent most of last night reading it.  Malcolm McGregor's Moroccan adventure is nail-biting stuff.  It must be very difficult to explain an innocent interest in wild plants to the locals with so much cannabis cultivation all around.

Lesley, I think the first CD arrived with the Bulletin almost exactly one year ago, but I am sure you will be able to request a duplicate.

I'm not going to tell them I haven't got mine yet.  Several of us here
in Victoria told the AGS we hadn't received the September issue by
November 18, so the AGS sent us new copies.  On November 30, we
each received two copies:  the original sent from the publisher and
the extra from the secretary.

I will expect the December issue to arrive at the end of February.

One of us may have a copy of the original they could send you?  I fear that the files sizes are a bit too big to email.

I assume that the full caption for the cover should read " Meconopsis horridula - observed checking from concealed position that the terrifying plant hunters with large cameras have left the vicinity". ;D
I can see why Anton went with the shorter version. ;)
