Meconopsis Group Events at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh 2010

The next Meconopsis Group meeting at the  RBGE on 6th March 2010  (which includes their AGM earlier in the day) will feature a talk by Paul Egan, who has written an article on 'Expedition Meconopsis- the Ethnobotany Nepal Himalaya Project' in the Rock Garden No. 124 January 2010

Paul, who coordinated this expedition to study Meconopsis in the wild in the autumn of 2008 and will talk about the new findings at  1.00 pm

The day will also include two talks by Dr Chris Grey-Wilson who was awarded the VMH by the RHS in recognition of his work as botanist, photographer, botanical explorer and author. He is editor of the Alpine Garden Society's Bulletin.

Meeting Charge There will be a nominal charge of £4 to attend this meeting, but this will include a lucky numbered ticket.
 
50:50 Plant Sale Please bring plants for a 50:50 plant sale (2 labels per pot, one for your name and the price, the other for the plant name). This is an important part of our day as the sale of plants will help to distribute the plants more widely among members and will boost our funds. Both Meconopsis and other plants are welcome.
Picnic lunch Please bring your own lunch to the meeting. Tea and coffee will be provided at 10.00am and at lunchtime.

Guests will be made very welcome

We are delighted to hear from the Meconopsis Group that that Toshio Yoshida will visit RBGE in May.

Many of you will be familiar with Toshio Yoshida's delightful book,published by Timber press in 2002, 'Portraits of Himalayan Flowers '

Toshio Yoshida is a renowned field botanist and photographer from Japan . This volume shows full-page colour plates of around a hundred different flowers and plants photographed perfectly in their  wonderful natural habitat.  Brief botanical information is provided in the captions to the photos.

He has agreed to give two lectures  at RBGE for The Meconopsis Group on Saturday 8th May.
An invitation is extended to all SRGC members and friends for this day; costs will be £5.00 and tickets may be obtained from:
 Ann Christie, Downfield, Westmuir, Kirriemuir DD8 5LP, make cheques payable to The Meconopsis Group.

Tickets will, it is hoped, also be available  at some SRGC shows. It is  hoped this will be of interest to members.  Full details  re  times for lectures  etc will be posted here later.
Everyone please bring a picnic -Coffee and Tea will be provided.

Photographing plants in wildest China with the main emphasis on Meconopsis
              Lecture 1  Remotest northwestern Yunnan (2006-2008)

              Lecture 2  More in Yunnan, and in Mianning, southwest Sichuan (2009)

For the Toshio Yoshido Event for his two talks on the mountain plants of the Sino-Himalayas on 8th May, the venue will be  the Conference Room at the RBGE from 10.00 -14.00.
There will also be a tour of the new Meconopsis beds in the Garden.

Toshido Yoshida event..... timings....At the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in the lecture theatre.
Time: 10.00 for 10.30 - 15.30 with tea and coffee available at 10.00 and at lunch-time.
(Bring your own picnic lunch.)
