John Grimshaw gave a brilliant talk on why bulbs wouldnt be lifted while growing.

I heard that one at the CGS last year.  It was quite unarguable.

I knew what  you meant, Mark.... though what you wrote gave me a nice mental picture of little bulbs furiously clinging to the ground and fighting against being wrenched up!

The BD gets quite animated on the subject of lifting bulbs in growth, particulalry snowdrops, who seem to suffer a great deal from this barbarism.... :P

Maggi, the temporary avatar, is my snowdrop find Marks Tall and tall it is around 13 inches 33cm high. Anne Wright was over here last year and we found one around 24 inches 60cm+

Good grief!  I wonder if snowdrops would hold the same fascination if they were developed to the point of being waist-high with equally sized flowers. The mental image is a bit disturbing.

sorry i didnt realise that was you in the combats john, i didnt recognise you with the beard!

I didn't recognise you either Rob with your shorter hair cut.  But at least we nodded and said hi accross a flower bed.   :D
