It was definitely in its prime yesterday, Peter.  But there were so many stunning plants.  The trillium nivale made another appearance, but didn't look quite as perky as it did at Hexham last week.  I liked the other trillium I showed here more myself, but the nivale sure is a huge potful.

We already have a fine selection of pictures but I will add a few more, there will be some repetition

Part of the largest class in the show, that for Primula allionii the winning 3 pan by Geoff Rollinson
Primula 'Saracen'
Primula 'Herald'
Primula 'Broadwell Milkmaid'
Primula 'Broadwell Milkmaid' this time in the large open and shown by Brian Burrow
Primula 'Joan Hughes'  George Young
Primula miniera shown by Don Peace...this was a very fine specimen, a cultivar that I do not find too easy to get into such condition
Primula allionii 'Lepus' shown by Geoff Rollinson...this is a 'newish' cultivar not too widely distributed yet

Fritillaria latifolia, also by Ivor Betteridge
Fritillaria tuntasia shown by David Boyd
Gagea fibrosa shown by Ian Leslie

down to the final stretch

Sebaea thomasii shown by Tom Green, his first Farrer Medal. He had a v close fight on his hands and at the judging the plant beat the following plant by only one vote
Dionysia bryoides by Derek Pickard. This was a superb exhibit, a picture does not do it justice. For once I felt that a joint Farrer might have been the right outcome
Dionysia curviflora shown by Ian Kidman
Dionysia 'Irene' Shown by Ian Kidman
Dionysia 'Monica' shown by Jack Green
Townsendia hookeri shown by Trevor Harding

Saxifraga columnaris shown by Geoff Mawson...not so often seen on the bench
Saxifraga georgei also by Geoff Mawson...even more seldom seen
Saxifraga 'Coolock Jean' shown by Geoff Rollinson...funny how his name keeps cropping up
Pusatilla halleri hybrid shown by forumist M&M Mcloughlin, next is a close up of the same plant
Tecophilia cyanocrocus by Mike Bramley

You are right Lesley,Chris captured the moment of truth ( a bit sneakey i thought) when you realised you had nothing to compete here today,The only place is the pub,and when you have drowned your sorrows you can spend the next two hours admiring everone elses plants and trying to find out where you went wrong, and remember theres always next week.

Well Tony, there's nothing like the offerings of a decent pub to perk one's spirits up and I'm sure you enjoyed the show thereafter. I have no doubt there will be many more floral offerings to come from you and Martin. I just wish I could be there to see them and even better, to meet you all, who show such fabulous plants and make the shows the wonderful events they always are.

I hesitate to do so, but has anyone questioned the ID of the Frit tuntasia of which 2 or 3 pics have been posted? I grow only one clone of course but it is always quite black on the outside, deepest red on the inner and the flowers somewhat incurving. The foliage is glaucous. Any comment?

You are quite correct Lesley what we see in the picture is not Frit tuntasia but Fritillaria davisii.

The grower (David Boyd) had himself questioned the name and had queried it on the plant label.  It looks like F davidii edit F davisii to me although I am not very familiar with F tuntasia.

Wait a minute Ian and Di.  Ian says Frit. davisii and Diane says F. davidii.  The Frit in question looks nothing like the F. davidii that Darreen Sleep showed last week and which featured on the forum report of Hexham Show. So which is it please?
