Could anyone make sense of this......uh....thing?! It could be parasitic but I don't even know which plant family it belongs to. It looks dead....but it isn't...

Does someone on the forum recognise it? It was growing at ~3000 meter underneath Rhododendron, the picture was taken in May.

Many thanks for the suggestions and ID, Boschniakia himalaica of the Orobanchaceae according to some links on the internet feeds on Rhododendron so it all falls in place. Glad to finally be able to add a name to that picture... ;)
