Paeonia 'Shima Nishiki' ...a interesting story .......
« on: April 29, 2010, 01:14:28 PM »
Hi all ,

I have decide to make a own topic for this peony story ....

In year 2000 I have bought from a german nursery the famous Paeonia 'Shima Nishiki' ....I was keen for a long time for this plant .
After some years the plant startet with flowers and I was really dissapointet to see the flowers are only full red ....I wrote my contact from the nursery and I told him this ....he says it is normal that this plants flowers in the first years always like the orginal plant ( Shima Nisiki is a mutation from Tayio )

Some year later this plant flowers still only red   :-\..and it was pretty expensiv...but it looks well and healty and I have acceptet this plant   :-\-such things happens and I was normaly always satisfied with this nursery !

I have postet in 2008 pics of this plant :

Before two days I looked in the evenig for my plants ( in this days flowers a lot of my peonies ) and it was like a shock when I saw the flowers :

THIS IS THE TRUE PAEONIA 'SHIMA NISHIKI  :o :o :o

....it is always the same :
we must have a lot of patience and never give up our hope !

Enjoy

Beautiful Hans. AND a strange behavior for a plant. I suppose it just had to grow up!

Hans,

Certainly a very strange and interesting development in this plant - and a very beautiful one.

If one zooms on it can see you have painted it!  8)

Like the old-fashioned striped roses but more sumptuous. A long wait, well rewarded Hans. I hope you are telling the story to the nursery from which you bought it. :)

There are modern roses that are beautifully striped. "Fourth of July", "Fred Astaire", and "Ginger Rogers" come to mind, though I only grow the first of those.
