Paeonia 'Shima Nishiki' ...a interesting story .......

Hi all ,

I have decide to make a own topic for this peony story ....

In year 2000 I have bought from a german nursery the famous Paeonia 'Shima Nishiki' ....I was keen for a long time for this plant .
After some years the plant startet with flowers and I was really dissapointet to see the flowers are only full red ....I wrote my contact from the nursery and I told him this ....he says it is normal that this plants flowers in the first years always like the orginal plant ( Shima Nisiki is a mutation from Tayio )

Some year later this plant flowers still only red   ..and it was pretty expensiv...but it looks well and healty and I have acceptet this plant   -such things happens and I was normaly always satisfied with this nursery !

Before two days I looked in the evenig for my plants ( in this days flowers a lot of my peonies ) and it was like a shock when I saw the flowers :

THIS IS THE TRUE PAEONIA 'SHIMA NISHIKI 

....it is always the same :
we must have a lot of patience and never give up our hope !

Like the old-fashioned striped roses but more sumptuous. A long wait, well rewarded Hans. I hope you are telling the story to the nursery from which you bought it.

There are modern roses that are beautifully striped. "Fourth of July", "Fred Astaire", and "Ginger Rogers" come to mind, though I only grow the first of those.
