Southport Show 2010

As I am off to Arisaig followed by Skye in the morning I thought I had better get my pictures from Southport in before leaving.
As usual it was what was photogenic that was photographed or the plant just caught my eye

Farrer medal to Dianthus squarrosus shown by Lee and Julie Martin....this exhibit had to be at least 3 feet wide from outer flower to outer flower. The Martins had made a 300 mile trip to show this plant.
Margaret Pickering had a field day of firsts which included

Daphne 'Cheriton'
Lewisia Aswood Carousel Hybrid, judged the best exhibit in the Intermediate Section
Rosenia humilis

I had a good run myself so will show a few of my own exhibits
Class 1, six pan made up of Fritillaria liliacea, Iris iberis ssp elegantissima & Phaiophleps biflora back row L to R, and Androsace studiosorum, And. studiosorum Doksa and Erigeron aureus front row L to R
I also got the small six beating close friend Ian Kidman for the first time in a six pan...we were travelling in the same car so we avoided talking about the judging on thw way home!!!. Exhibits were Sebaea thomasii and Fritillaria biflora at back, Asperula arcadiensis and Primula forrestii middle with Androsace Cylindrica x hirtella and Hesperochiron californicus at front

I also had dug out of the garden on Tuesday (just as well as we had hard frosts wed & thurs) a Dodecatheon jeffreyi (I think) to have as a reserve for the big six, not needed so it won in one pan primulaceae and is now back safely in the garden

Ranunculus godleyanus receiver a Certificate of Merit for Keith & Rachel Lever
Celmisia spedenii shown by Ian Leslie did not win the class, in part I think because the lighting in the hall did not show it at its best but such is life, never the less I liked the plant and my flash shows it in true life colour

Androsace bulleyana shown by John Richards had a lovely colour and stature
Ramonda nathaliae shown by Brian and Shelagh Smethurst who also exhibited
Asplenium trichomanes

 Cecilia Coller had the most points in the Open Section, one of her fine exhibits was
Pleione 'El Pico'
Allium shelkovnikovii was the best plant in a 19cm pot won by Ivor Betteridge who also showed
Celmisia allanii

Draba longisiliqua won the big cushion class for Ian Kidman....I made him carry it in by himself as I did not want to suffer an 'injury' such was the size of the exhibit

I love your attitude - it's all very well showing but successful growing is the most important secret for success

Miniature Garden shown by John & Clare Dower...I had an amusing insight into the weight of this plant as as it was being carried from car to show hall there was a slight 'marital tiff' as to who was not carrying it just right...was all smiles by the end of the day

Thats my lot, lets pray for a good spell of weather in the Western Scottish Highlands for 10 days or so but not too hot here at home so my plants don't get stressed! without me to hold there hands

Super photos from the show, George ...... we were, as always, mindful of our friend Kath Rimmer down there, while Carole and Ian B.  were up here!

Well done on the success with your six pans.
Some grand plants altogether and I see some goodies from Lionel and Diane is showing some of his from the other week in Cheshire; he's having a good year, too it seems.

Have a good holiday.....hope it's too early for you to become midgie fodder!
