dividing Primula Johanna

I lefted this Primula Johanna today because I thought it only had three growing points. Over the winter it had three resting buds or whatever they are called. It has about 20 growing points. Should I divide the plant in to several growing points or singles?

Mark, I wouldn't have thought this was a good time of year to divide Primulas. I usually do mine early to mid September when the weather is a little cooler and they enter a short period of growth prior to winter dormancy.

Mark, unless you want to start a nursery, I would make not more than three pots out of this plant. Time is o.k. but keep them out of the sun!

Mark,
It's okay to divide it now. As long as you don't put it in the sun and as long as you don't let it dry out after dividing. I would keep some growing points together when you divide them... you'l have less loss and nicer plants that way.

I agree with Wim and Luit. I usually divide primulas with that type of growth, well into summer when they have finished flowering and the leaf growth is strong. A good watering and shading if it's sunny and all will be well.

They'll be going in to shady troughs - and maybe wee bits will be offered. I'm looking for Peter Klein
