another twist on the "flammability" of Dictamnus----
collecting seed/cutting stems can cause *SEVERE* skin burning/blistering/rash/welting.

having gotten close & personal with thousands of plants over decades of collecting seed, there are surprisingly few that have ever
caused negative reactions---but dictamnus was one of the worst. not only i, but 2 of my garden elves were severely affected; one
having to seek medical attention. her burns ended up in permanent scarring.

when we analyzed our personal history with the plant (why it happened some years, but not others) we seemed to have discovered that very hot, humid days was the crucial factor.  perhaps in extreme heat, the oils/chemicals are more activated/potent.

having made my way to a local mushroom company recently with a friends dump truck to pick up a ton of mushroom compost for the new woodland gardens, i also brought home a couple of small bags of fresher fungi remains that are now in the warm, darkish area of my unfinished basement laundry room, producing mushrooms like crazy. reports from friends who do this year round has it that this one bag may keep producing for much of the winter. next year i will bring home a variety of different mushrooms.

soon my first batch will be turned into creamy mushroom soup.

Very cool Kristl, a lil bag producing mushrooms, I like the idea.  But, are they inflammable? 

Too bad about the bad skin reaction to the volatile oils on Dictamnus; fortunantely I'm not adversely affected by the plant.  But I think you're onto something, the oils (including associated scent and combustibility) definitely seem more concentrated in warm or hot humid air.

Stephen, I must ask, was the light you saw a crackling aromatic flash of lemony spiciness? 
Glad we got that sorted out , I was afraid that I might have offended, certainly not my intent.
