Amaryllis belladonna new variety
«

Hi all ,
In last year I have bought from a french nursery some bulbs of Amaryllis belladonna forms .
Before two weeks I was really surprised that one of them is building a bud ( without any watering )
I take it out from the greenhouse and gave this plant a little water and a place in the garden ( protect from rain ) ....today is now sun and I could make some pics .
The seller wrote me this is a new variety ( until now without a name ) - it has a very long stem ( 45 cm )
Enjoy
Hans

Beautiful alba, Hans!!
Amaryllis belladonna are very common where I live, but only in the classic, mid-pink shade. It's lovely to see other varieties.1

Hi Hans,
Belladonnas are common here as well
but the white ones are usually hybrids and have a yellow throat. Yours looks a bit different and may be closer to the species!
It depends if the flowers only point to one side (as the true species does) or whether they radiate out in all directions like the spokes of a wheel (indicating a hybrid with Brunsvigia or Cybistetes). At least that is what I've been told. You'll definitely have to collect seed from this one
cheers

Hans,
wonderful alba, it seems to be a good year for Amaryllis in the south of Germany. This is not the first one flowering for you this year - here in the north again no flowers.
