On Saturday, November 6th, at 10 o'Clock, our VRV organizes a meeting and lecture day at the University of Gent.

The venue :

Plantentuin Universiteit Gent
Karel Lodewijk Ledeganckstraat 35
9000 GENT
(entrance through the garden at the back - follow the signposts in the building)

There will be a plant raffle, plant sales and lots of opportunities to meet and talk to friends !
On top of that, we are proud and happy to annouce that Arthur Nicholls (Art600 on this forum) will be giving two undoubtedly excellent and most interesting talks about the flora in two countries that he has visited on several occasions :

TURKEY
and
IRAN

We will see lots of Crocus, Iris, Dyonisia's and many other gems in their natural habitat !

Entrance is free, coffee will be available but please bring your lunch.
We start at 10.00 o'Clock and finish normally at about 15.30 hrs.

We hope to welcome all alpine enthousiasts living within "hopping distance"  ;D of Gent as this is an opportunity NOT TO BE MISSED

Yesterday we enjoyed a visit to the Flemish Rockgarden Club and had a wonderful day with very good and interesting lectures by Arthur.
We were happy to see some very exquisite Iris etc.  :D :D
My better half made some pictures of Arthur at work and of the Belgian forumnists.
Thanks to the VRV for the warm welcome!!

Sadly Luit died on 14th October 2016 - happily we can still enjoy his posts to the Forum

Just a bit of explanation on the pics made by Luit.

Picture 1 (from left to right ) : Jozef Lemmens (former president and founder of our VRV) -Arthur - Dan - Hendrik Van Bogaert .

The Forumnists (from left to right ) :

Dan-Arthur -Danny De Raeymaeker - Kris De Raeymaeker -Wim Boens - Luc Gilgemyn - Luc Scheldeman - Luit Vandelft -Frankie Wulleman-Hendrik Van Bogaert.

What a good idea Luit to make this picture. Most of the time I only make pictures of plants and forgot the people.  :-[

Thanks for the pictures Luit !
It was such a pleasure seeing you again and it is most encouraging to hear that you all had such a great time !

You are quite right, Arthur did a wonderful job as our lecturer and we were more than happy and proud to have him !  The day was too short and it was a shame we couldn't spend more time with so many of our visitors !  We definitely must make up for that on a future occasion !

We just waved goodbye to our friends Arthur and Dan on their way back to the channel tunnel and I thought I should mention in their names that they also had a "grand" time !

We should also keep in mind that we got to know Arthur (and so many others including you Luit  ;D) through THIS wonderful Forum !! So our gratitude also goes to the SRGC !!  :-* :-*

Many many thanks once again to all the attendants !!

It was certainly an exciting day in Ghent: a nice turnout, a great raffle, met new people and of course a wonderful story about Turkey and Iran with its interesting flora. It was a groundbreaking experience for our young association.

Thank you Arthur for your experience with us to come share. Lute also again thanks for the photos on this forum.

It was a pleasure to meet old friends and make new ones.

It was a daunting prospect being the first international speaker, but I was made to feel most welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

My thanks to everyone involved in the planning of the event and my special thanks to Luc Gilgemyn, Luc Scheldeman and their wives who looked after Dan & I on the Sunday.

When I get approval to post on the VRV, I will post some of the images so that those who could not attend will have a chance to see some special plants.

Kris, it's very nice to see so many well known names from the Forum, and to be able to put faces to them but are there no women belong to VRV? ???

There are definitely some women associated with the VRV, Lesley, but it's still predominantly a male affair. Like little children with their toys. ;)

Lesley,
As Frankie already mentioned, we do have female VRV members, but alas none of them is active on this Forum and as the picture was of the SRGC forumists, I'm afraid the picture is an all "male" affair....  ;D
