The reason I end up running into a these kinds of clips is because I actually do spend time on the "outdoor adventure" type sites on line---it gives me a good perspective on little known wild places people have explored (which is then cross referenced for plants). For me, the wild spaces I might find myself in are as important as the plants that live there.

You are not telling me that you would not climb this trail if there was a rare plant at the end.  If you did not have vertigo, this would surely give it to you.

While I do have issues with height---never bothers me when my feet are firmly on the ground and a sense of security on *both* sides  (hiking in the mountains vs. swinging bridges over canyons). I couldn't handle this walk, no matter what was at the end.

I remember being in the (not very high) Smoky Mountains some years ago with my family. My then-husband had to stumble from the car and lie down at the side of the road he was so sick. We had been married for almost 15 years at that point and I never knew he suffered from vertigo. I couldn't relate to how he had felt then until a couple of years ago when I developed a severe case of it from an inner ear infection---it is *not* a fun experience.

No.1 (belongs in the moan, moan thread)...I hate it when I type a witty reposte and I 'post' and get a warning that I might want to check as the thread's been updated....but I never know what to do and my post gets lost..............whinge over.

Yes Maggi I would do that path, brilliant :D :D :D :D I wouldn't do it the way the idiot with the video camera did it (I'm assuming it was a he but who knows). I'd do it the way the sensible chap he overtook did it (his name must be Martin), clipped in to the life saving, and modern looking, 'via ferrata' style cable.

As for the motorbike guys...............complete nutters and deserving of a Darwin award!

I knew that wouldn't be as witty as the first version :'( :'( :'(

Joan's gone off to check the small print in my life insurance :o

Where is it - I want to have a go  ;) 8) ;)

These are two different places I think.  Kristl's link, I can tell you exactly where it is, cos I've been  :o  four times  :o  :o
It's near to Antequera about 30miles north of Malaga.  And no, I didn't do the walk, and I don't think you can at the moment as it's closed off as it's unsafe.  I think it's being repaired, but wouldn't trust it even so ::)
I believe it was built so the workmen could carry materials for building of the dams to create the reservoirs in the area
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caminito_del_Rey

So why have I been four times??  Because that area is the best site I know comfortably near to the Malaga area in mid February for Narcissus cantabricus.  Here's a thread I did about the area in 2007 (we were there last year as well!)   http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=275.0
and a couple of pictures of what you can find in the area.  The vulture was photographed actually over the Camino del Rey.  I think that's a worrying sign  ;D  ;D  ;D

With 2011 having been named "The International Year of Forests" by the UN, this seems an apt time for the following:

I don't know if any of you have had the opportunity to see the film
"Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai"
one of the most inspirational stories ever and close to my heart.

It is a compelling documentary narrative about the first environmentalist and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1977, Maathai suggested rural women plant trees to address problems stemming from a degraded environmnet. Under her leadership, their tree-planting grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, defend human rights and promote democracy. And it all started with a seed.

I recommend it highly if you ever have the chance.

Here is a short u-tube portrait:
