I think, (I hope) that this is where I should post that Anthony and his family will now officially be New Zealanders. Their plane should have arrived an hour or so ago (usually the long haul flights arrive after passengers have had a decent sleep and some breakfast). I hope the customs/immigration parts are going smoothly as we speak and that all will be well and happy for them in the land of the long white cloud. :D I and others will welcome them warmly.

I hope the Darby Clan are safely delivered to NZ..... I was trather put out when I heards of the further earthquakes hitting the country... I doidn't feel that was quite what anyone would be hoping for on arriving in a new place!

Here's hoping all goes well.... and peacefully, for them... and all our NZ chums, who I'm sure would be happy for the earth to stop moving for them .... in this context, at least!

Christchurch is still being shook up from time to time and some further damage. They are told to expect these "aftershocks" for a full year! Gisborne and Rotorua in the central/eastern North Island have had a few lately too. No serious damage though, except to nerves, no doubt.

AD and family have arrived to flooding in Auckland, including at Bucklands Beach, where they were booked into the BB Waterfront Motel for their first two nights. Many beachfront properties have been evacuated so I hope the Darby's are OK and haven't had too watery an introduction to New Zealand. The weather system we're having seems to be the leftovers from the Queensland and Victorian system, a result of La Nina, after years of El Nino droughts.

Best wishes Anthony and family. Looking forward to hear from you once you get settled.

Lesley Anthony will be so used to extreme weather us folks in Scotland are well used to extremes. Heard on the radio we had a earth quake in Scotland 3.5.

Just had a quick email from Anthony and they checked into the motel yesterday afternoon, no mention of flooding so must be OK They are all well and collect their dog tomorrow.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I finally got connected to the Forum five minutes ago on my daughter's laptop. Vivienne's won't allow me too. We are now in furnished accommodation in Cove Lane near Panmure Basin, Mt Wellington, Auckland for the next 4 weeks. We have lemon, mandarin, NZ grapefruit, loquat and macadamia trees in the garden. Still not sure where we'll end up but we are not city dwellers, so have ruled out Auckland.

I must thank Lesley for the greetings card and wonderful parcel of goodies which greeted us at Bucklands Beach (the floods had gone, but lots of debris on the road). There was half a dozen useful magazines, a yummy box of choccies, a calendar and a marvellous cookbook called "Fresh" which does various recipes and menus from the different areas of NZ!

We have had a wee run about (Landrover Discovery V8 - phew it gets thirsty) thanks to Vivienne's cousin, so our first purchase was a car! Today we went to Piha Beach west of Auckland. The warm black "iron" sand stuck to the magnetic clips on my well-travelled Clark's sandals (Antarctica is the only continent I have not set foot on wearing this pair) which refuse to wear out!

The wildlife is keeping me wide eyed, so I'll try to take some pics.

Cheers

Anthony

Congrats Anthony.  There's a whole bunch of new stuff to learn now!!  ;D  Now for starters.... that bright yellow thing up in the sky, that is called the sun.  You don't see it very often where you're from, but you're going to have to get used to it now.  ;)
