My 10-year old son was looking over my shoulder as I was going through forum posts and I said that there was a thread I wanted to show him. "Only if it's ranunculus" he said "otherwise I don't want to see it", but I made sure he hung around until I dug out the Moscow squirrels for him  Then we moved onto the non-alpine vegetables etc thread. I showed him a couple of photos of strawberries and when I showed him Gail's lovely photo of a Camara strawberry flower I asked "what family is a strawberry then?" - "rose" he said immediately. I'm happy

I hope he was impressed with Olga getting up close and personal with the elk, too? That is one BIG animal for a grownup, never mind a ten year old!

Me too actually! My first thought was "photos of the Dolomites", which he is also very happy to come and look at!
(He's also told me that crocuses are much more interesting than snowdrops  )

I already liked the lad, now I love him!  Brains and taste, he'll go far.

I remember the little daughter of a friend, (David Atkinson, Aberdeenshire members will know him) whose daughter Jenny would toddle up to garden visitors admiring the "blue poppies" and tell them that "actually those are meconopsis". Priceless!

I have visions of Calvin and Hobbes and their "Dictator for Life" leader of their club (which hates girls, especially Susie).  Except in your case it is "Ranunculus for Life!"

This is going to mean absolutely nothing to anyone who doesn't know the comic strip, and quite probably not a lot to those who do.
