Lesley,

We grow it here as a pot plant - Calocasia esculenta - with black-leafed cultivars particularly attractive. I have found it difficult to get them through the winter. Even in a glasshouse, cold, they generally succumb to the winter frosts.

I brought one back from Trinidad (officially, checked by MAFF) and grew it on my classroom windowsill. It is now in a different room as a former colleague wanted it!

Grandson Barney was born to my older daughter Rosie at 1 a.m. today, Valentine's Day. I am now officially a grandad!
