I'm surprised that none of the other Aussies have mentioned Cadel's win in "La Tour" yet! (And Madame Moderator would surely have noticed ;D ;D )
Perhaps it's simply that they have finally been able to get an early night instead of staying up to all hours to watch what's been happening in daylight on the other side of the world?
cheers
fermi

I would have made mention of it myself, fermi, if I hadn't been so out of breath from following every kilometre of the race on the telly.... all those sprints and mountains are a bit of a strain at my age, y'know!
It was a super tour..... blokes being knocked off their bikes by motorcycles and French TV cars notwithstanding, I loved every minute. I was so pleased with the success of Mark Cavendish and his team and Cadel is a real scrapper! By the way, do you know if we should say his name to sound like Cadell  or Caddle ( like paddle!) ... Ian and I chopped and changed all the time and ended up just calling  him "Evans" !

I know there are a lot of us Europeans who are avid cycling fans, but I'm glad to hear that at least some of you folks down there are appreciating your boy's success!

My Snowdrop parcel from Glen Chantry arrived yesterday.

Received ALL my picks and all bulbs are of the very best quality.  :)

Having met those nice Sfolks, I'm not at all surprised.

Good to get parcels, isn't it? I got some snowies a little while ago, though not from a commercial source, and it was very nice indeed!  8)

I was rather pleased that Hamilton won the Grand Prix. Not a lot is made of that here ::) ::), but when Button wins, the press thinks he is the best since sliced bread. I prefer brown (sliced bread).  ;) ;) ;)

After some of the most yucky days here, with very cold winds and rain and generally horrible, non summery weather, it has been a lovely day today, here in Aberdeen. It has been warm and sunny and at this time of evening the sun is coming in my study window. Outside the indumentum on my Rhododendron bureauvii foliage is glowing in the low sunlight and the temperature in here is showing at 19 degrees C. Such luxury!!
I don't need my pashmina or gloves and I have rewarded myself with a nice summery drink.

Yes Maggi it's great. I have been out all day just enjoying the garden. Was so fed up of the miserable weather. Roll on more warm days. Enjoy your drink.

funny place to put it I suppose but .....

today my car, (Bertha), decided to stop working properly.  :'(

So why I have I mentioned it here not in the "moan" thread?

Managed to get home safely  :)

the lad who lives across from us, identified / confirmed the problem (clutch)  :)

he then contacted several mechanics for me to find someone who could look at her for me and has offered to tow her round there in the morning  :)

and has offered to give me a lift, if needed, until she is fixed.  :)

Nice to know good neighbours still exist  ;D

I record my thanks to Alan Newton who spotted that Cecilia Coller had some pots of Eucomis Schijffii for sale at Tewkesbury.  I have just rung her and she had one pot left ;D ;D ;D ;D

What lovely people there are on this forum 8)

And I'm happy because I've just remembered that I am expecting an order from Pitcairn too!  I'm afraid that several months down the line I forget everything, so these reminders come a pleasant surprises!

I wondered why the postie had shoved a number of unaddressed leaflets through the letterbox today as he does not stop if he has no proper mail.  WhenI went out to the greenhouse I found a small package from Pitcairn Alpines ( thanks Susan).  Have written out the labels and will plant them tomorrow.
