In two weeks I will have a walled garden front and back. My neighbour removed the dead dividing hedge at the front and back today and is going to build a wall, so I don't have any hedges to cut.(The frost last winter killed all the hedges round here) ;D ;D ;D ;D Anyone like 3 hedge trimmers for free. ;D ;D ;D

You have my sympathies Anne, it's an on-going chore for me having neither walls nor hedges in my front garden

I must share my cloud nine in plant world. Today I revisited an elderly lady who has some very old rose plants in her garden - they were huge plants when she bought the place in 1956. The rose that is extra special we call "Mrs Good's Special Tea" - it covers an area of at least 6m x 3m where stems have hit ground and rooted. This particular Tea rose hasn't been found anywhere else in Australia and we believe it may be 'Marquise de Vivens' from 1885 from Dubreuil. A  plant is now in France and from there it will possibly then journey to the US. Mrs Good has been given some photocopies of articles that mention her rose and she rang the other day to say that the rose was in flower.

My apologies to Todd.

... And it's not even 1st April ...!!!!    ;D

See below ...

Researchers from UBC Botanical Garden and Japan’s Chiba University are collaborating on a study entitled, “Cross-cultural Analysis of Eye Movement During the Inspection of Several Types of Landscape Trees”

We are seeking interested Western-raised adults to volunteer up to 60 minutes of their time to participate in this eye-movement study on how Japanese pruned plants vs. Western pruned plants are “seen”.

Participants must be:
between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive
raised in a Western country (preferably, but not exclusively, Canada) since the age of 3
able to see a distance of 1.5m and recognize objects without eyeglasses or hard contacts

If you complete the study, we’ll compensate you with a Greenheart Canopy Walkway Pass to use or give to a friend (value $12 CAD).

The study will take place between September 26 and October 2, 2011 inclusive, from 9am to 5pm.

Location of the study will be in “Gail’s Abode” aka the Panabode aka the Botanical Garden Scholar’s Retreat at the old entrance to UBC Botanical Garden.

For more information (including a copy of the consent form for you to preview) and / or to schedule a timeslot, visit http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/eyestudy/
