An early January melt has given Crocus michelsonii its chance to flower, bees have visited also!
Patches of Crocus laevigatus fontenayi continues to flower ( started in early December )

Maggi, if this keep up the answer is Butterflys!! The Red Admirals were active in December and the day moths were pollinating the
Crocus laevigatus fontenayi!!

Yes, snow and frosts, min temps to -15c so far this year, the big difference here is if we have a warm spell it comes up from the med and it really is warm ( +16c in Veliko Tarnovo on Christmas Day ) . Even a sunny day here can create micro-climates at crocus flower level that allow the bees to be active,  essentially if the weather allows the crocuses to flower it's good enough for the bees.
This year has seen multiple melts and warm periods throughout December and early January which has been great for crocus seed from the crocus group seed ex. Simon direct sowed all his crocus seed when it arrived October 16th 2010 and it is germinating strongly.

first flowers today:
Crocus biflorus ssp.artvinensis from NE-Turkey

I thought mine were well ahead but yours, Michael, must be enjoying the 'heat' we are having now. 12c here today. I have lots of buds but still only Sunspot and ancyrensis out

I had C. fleischeri from the Gulek Pass in Turkey flowering today.
First picture was taken around 11 o'clock - the rest merely an hour later !
