have managed to sell a substantial amount and all buyers have been more than happy with their purchases,
i will be lifting another large clump this spring after flowering so that they are in fine fettle for next year

Sandersii, or course, is not a species, it is the name given to the group of Galanthus nivalis with yellow (instead of green) markings on the inner petals and a yellow ovary.    Many of these originate from Northumberland, including the original named after a Mr Sanders of Cambridge.

If I understand the forum rules correctly, one can post information about plants one is seeking or plants one is willing to swap but one should not post to advertise plants for sale; so I am very pleased to see that Bobbydog has clarified his willingness to swap.  Maybe we can moderate these sandersii-related comments into a thread of their own?

What sort of things were you looking to swap bobby?is it only drops or are you interested in other stuff,i have your yellow drop and its just pushing up at the moment(got off the bay).Can i ask did you look through your yellows for variation?

really wanting more of the drops of approx value in 121 swaps
i am very new, and only have all of these sandersii
and i want to increase in the less common type as common i can buy anywhere
interested in snowdrops and cyclamen

no i did not look through any of the drops for variations or different types growing, then i was a total total novice, i just thought that all drops were the same until i asked advice on these sandersii from a respected personal friend in kew, 
i knew of about 20 different types, not the 500+ so i am now on a steep learning curve, have just bought the book on snowdrops good book from amazon as it is cheaper than the one on ebay.
after auction end tonight i  will be keeping the rest until the flowering is over, to try and spot variations
then hopefully sell some more on ebay but in the green
then i will be lifting another large clump of them for sorting for next year

Hi Folks, just wondering if any of you have bought or swapped the Galanthus Sandersii?  I'm always wondering if I should try to like the yellows better.


Sadly it seems from many sources that none of these drops were yellows.

In june when the drops are dormant I swap several galanthus for sandersii.hope they will flower for me as I like the yellows but they do not all like my soil.
I think this is a good offer and an opportunity to try and like them.

I bought three - yellows are a particular favourite of mine. 

Was very encouraged when the quite small bulbs all developed buds.  Now a little concerned that the buds are still green - will they develop into yellow as they open?

I'm afraid those are not going to be yellows, Arthur. Who did you buy them from? On ebay? Even when yellows go greenish they don't look as green as that. I'm sure they're going to be ordinary nivalis. There's no sign of even a hint of yellow in the ovaries or the leaves.
