booking forms for the Gala 2008 are now out!!

I have to be in Germany for a book launch that weekend so can't make it - again!!   :-[  and Joe Sharman wanted me to do a talk about snowdrop hybridising at the gala, but I had to let him down. Maybe next year.

The dates for the Altamont, Ireland, snowdrop day shown in the IGPS magazine are wrong. Well, the dates are OK but they're in Feb not April

I must have been asleep, Mark.

Worse still, there is serious doubt that I shall be able to travel north for your event. I was really looking forward to it.

Yes, Mark, I am the guilty one. I took the details over the telephone from Paul Cutler and obviously typed them incorrectly.

Regarding the Northern Event, it really couldn't have fallen more conveniently as I have the Thursday and Friday off before it and so it would have been great. However, Mary has gone off the idea of travelling and despite offers of dinner at Paul Rankin's restaurant she remains firm. Without her I will not be travelling. Very disappointed as I had looked forward to having a little time with Bob and, of course, visiting your garden. I have been to the other three on a few occasions but I would have liked to see your snowdrops. Pity!

Mark,

I'm sure you will have an excellent display and I'm very disappointed I won't get up to see them. Another time, I hope.

Mark

Any chance of a recap of the Galanthus Events 2008.  Your original post was in July of 2007 when some of the details were provisional.  Plus there seem to be other events (something in Essex?) that have only been mentioned in passing.
Almost in Scotland.

Keeping us on our toes Paddy ;)

BTW, what's that lovely snowdrop on the front cover?  I'd like to get hold of one with solid green inner segments that's easy to grow & preferably not too esoteric.  Any suggestions?

For example, from my local garden centre last Saturday, the flower stalk is about 8 inches tall, making this my tallest snowdrop.
Almost in Scotland.

I think it is great fun to watch what I would call the "Real gardeners" at the garden centres.... they are the ones looking into the faces of all the Helleborus and checking over the snowdrops with fine attention to detail to see if a minute differnece can be spotted! Of course, that is exactly what I do, too... we've found all sorts of pretty things in this way.... one of the few things that we can  really get pleasure from in the big garden centres with their homogenised stock of "production line" varieties and dyed heathers!!
