Hepatica nobilis Flore Plena
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:13:43 PM »
Hello everyone,
does anyone know any nursery where I could buy this plant?

By occasion I will also ask about Miyakea integrifolia if anyone know where to buy this one.

Many thanks for your help.
Best regards,

I think Peter Korn or Gerben Tjeerdsma may have the Miyakea for sale, Chris.... though I am not sure.  I hope you have seen it featured in both the International Rock Gardener of February and December?

Larz Danielsson on Spezialplant has Miyakea and blue Hepatica nobilis Flore plena.
It is a nursery in northern Sweden. He opens this year on 20 January.
I can imagine that both Hepatica and Miyakea can sell out quickly.
Peter Korn had Miyakea last year, if he has this year I do not know. I have not seen that he has filled Hepatica

Thank you for your replies. I was afraid of that Hepatica nobilis Flore Plena will have its own special, high sky price... Oh well, what you don't do for your family. ;-)

Hello Chris, which colour did you want? The double pink is quite common in the UK.

Hello Chris, I suggest if you are willing to pay, that you contact John Massey of Ashwood nurseries.
Are you sure you want nobilis and not 'japonica' ?

I am sure I want H. nobilis. Thank you all, I have two sources of this plant. In both it has its price, I will simply have to save money.

Hello Chris
Full double hepatica have no pollen and can be propageted by division.
I think the best way is to grow from the seed which has a strain of double form.
In Japan we call cultivars of hepatica japonica as following
  A) " hyozyunzaki".... normal  flower
  B) " nidanzaki".........semidouble, stamen change, sometimes no pollen
  C) " sandanzaki".......semidouble, stamen and stigma change , almost no pollen
  D) " senzyuzaki".......full double, no pollen
The cross between (B) and (A) set F1 seeds. Double form is recessive, so F1
flowers in normal form. F2 of  self pollinationF1 flower in various colours and  forms.
The problem is that it takes much time to grow and make your favourite color and form.
If you are interested , I will be able to send the F1 seeds this year.

Tetsuo,

I'm sure there are a LOT of us here on the forum who would like to get seed from Heps that have the double genes.  Here in Australia the price issue is even higher due to import considerations (all a high price on top of the original cost of buying overseas, and only if we know someone who had a quarantine house somewhere in a climate suitable for growing the for their quarantine period, also a rare and expensive procedure).  I for one would be very interested in seed with any possibilities of creating double or semi-double offspring, and I definitely do NOT mind the wait.  ;D  Almost all of my Hepatica are grown from seed, mostly from the wonderful people here on the forum who have shared them over the last few years.  If you end up having spare seed I would definitely like to place myself on the waiting list if possible.  Whether there is anything I can send you in return (I'm not sure of Japanese quarantine limitations) I am unsure, but I am more than willing to send you trades in return. 8)
Cheers.

Tetsuo, thank you for sharing that amazing method of creating a double form of Hepatica japonica, but I am that very weird type that is searching only for Hepatica nobilis ssp. nobilis double form. I am glad that my topic could help someone else.

It was all because of this photo which was made in Poland. I firstly thought it was from someone's garden, but than I knew it was made in the nature. The problem is that there is simply no contact with the owner of this site or any possible ways of contacting with her. I tried, few times by different ways. The good thing is that I was finally able to pinpoint the location of this plant, but still I have to search entire mountain, which will be about 0,5 square km if not more.

This photo is more than disturbing! :D Look at the colour of this plant and there is possibility it will be fertile. I have to find it.
Best regards,

Breathtaking, if that colour is true Chris.  No wonder you are lusting after it!

Very nice picture! It is exciting and interesting to find rare form in the fields.
I also like to wander in the forest. I hope you find intermediate double
form which set pollen.
Paul
Sorry, I do not have seeds now. But I will be able to send F1 seeds which have the strain of double form in May or June. Please wait.
