Wim - you beat me to it, your first pic looked like N. cordubensis.. I'm surprised you have 'Idol' since  at least 3 forumists (including me) have reported that bulbs of 'Idol' only last one year.

Gerry, sorry to hear that you had troubles with Idol, it is in mine garden now for 4 years with out problems till now.
We are the stock holder in the Netherlands and grow it sins 2000, you know, Idol is a selection from N.calcicola  made by Michal Kammerlander and he gave it to me in 2000.
I have to say, that it is Fusarium feeling so it is not the easiest one to grow, we give it every year a warm water treatment but befor we controle the bulbs on Fusarium, othrwise you infect the hole stok.
So what can happen to your bulbs, maybe you feed it to much because that can give Fusarium, we know that some varieties can not manage to much feed in the end of the growing seison and special by heigh temp. (But Gerry, this is only a sugestion I do not know exactly what happen with your bulbs).
I should say tray again

Wim

Thanks for the comment Wim. I have grown N. calcicola, raised from seed, with no problems at all for several years. I am not the only forumist to have found that 'Idol' does not persist & I think we are all competent growers  - in fact, if I remember correctly, one of us has tried twice**. Since I do not wish to waste any more money I will not be trying again & I would advise any forumists reading this  to think twice before buying  this  cultivar despite the relatively low cost.
