As Hans in Germany pointed out in another thread today is Martin's Day in Central Europe - my name's day according to tradition. So happy name's day to me and I'm off to eat the huge Slovak Barbórka chocolate and almond cake made for me by Ivi and the kids. Yum!

it seems we have in both country same traditions ( Bavaria + Hungaria ) - very nice !
On your names calender it seems to be a bit different ....p.e. my name ( Hans ) is here on 24.June ...in your calander is there a other name ...
I would say Maggi has to decide self which kind of Margaret she prefer ...anyway - she is a "Pearl" !!!

I found really interesting to have this conversations about "localism". Would be nice to hear more about it. Like  for Martin name day it traditional to taste the new vine and bake a fat goose and Slovakian people has cake.  Yes, we have so many same traditions and food. The calendar is different even from my childhood. Some times I have no idea why the changes.

Joshi is intersting name - could be Józsi, but depend from pronuntiaton

On Saturday evening we went to a restaurant called "Gengis Khan" quite near by, for James's 15th birthday. A new take on eating out for us. Big barn of a place with tables set out like a canteen. Cold starters set out buffet-style. Down one side you queue for the ingredients for your main course which you put is=n a small bowl - raw lamb, chicken, beef or pork (choice of marinated or not); raw seafood; raw vegetables; noodles and next there are meal recipes on a wall above a couple of dozen or so marinades and oils. You pick what you want and add it to your bowl of meat etc (generally two sauces and one oil). Then you hand it to one of three chefs standing round a huge hot plate who tips it out to cook. These chefs take it in turns to mix and cook your meal. Takes less than five minutes to cook and plate. You can add sides from another buffet and return to your table. If you desire, you can repeat the procedure with a different set of ingredients. Sweets are limited to pancakes cooked in front of you and ice cream (Lucy had hers shaped like Mickey Mouse) and sauces. To complete the illusion, I had a Fat Yak beer.

That sort of restaurant ("Mongolian") has been around here for some time... no one to blame if your meal isn't as good as you'd hoped.    (Generally-speaking, I usually prefer that someone with a lot more skill puts it all together for me... though, having said that, I'll jump at any chance to eat out!
