NORTH MIDLAND AGS SHOW AT CHESTERFIELD held on Saturday 2nd April 2011

Just arrived home from another excellent AGS North Midland Show at Chesterfield. Entries and exhibitor numbers were certainly down on previous years, but there was colour and interest throughout the hall.
Many congratulations to John Savage and his team on another attractive Society event.
The Farrer Medal, a super pan of the brilliant white Draba ossetica, was exhibited by Frank and Barbara Hoyle.

That is a super Draba.... no wonder the Hoyles are looking so happy.  They must be very pleased with such a good plant.

Will add a few pictures taken at Chesterfield yesterday. Although there were fewer total plants on the benches this year the quality was as high as ever...bythe way Cliff Fritillaria kotschyana was not shown by me...was Don Peace I think...he had some fantastic frits on display however as they are difficult to photograph I did not take too many
Not a big plant but is one of my favourites, unfortunately lost mine but
Alkanna aucheriana shown by Ivor Betteridge reminds me of what I lost
Androsace pubescens ....Lionel Clarkson...small but well flowered
Anemonella thalictriodes....Lionel Clarkson....its the time of year for anemonellas but mine are really just getting going

Dionysia hybrid f2 MK972001....Ju Bramley...the name in the bottom corner is not the name for this plant
Douglasia laevigata....Ian Kidman...in a 28cm pan at least. Ian again had the most points for the Open Section...his 10th consecutive year for doing this...the show gave him a bottle of malt whisky as a reward...must call over soon

Wonderful pictures, Cliff, of wonderful plants.  It was nice to see Draba dedeana on a show bench midst the other rarer plants.  Douglasia laevigata looked better than it does in the wild.

Draba 'John Saxton'...Lionel Clarkson. A new cultivar which is a hybrid beteen D dedeana and D rosularis which shows great potential. Named in memory of John Saxton as it was he who produced the original plant...keith Lever, Aberconwy now propogates it

Townsendia spathulata...George Young...the normal version...is a true alpine as it lives over 10,000'. My first time of flowering, probably will now die

Draba mollissima on the bench...as short a flowering stem as I have ever seen on this draba...makes it worth while growing
