Lilium chitrangadae

Seems to give a new dimension to the discussion on the deep pink form of mackliniae many of us admire. If the close-up is right, the colour can even be darker pink almost towards red but seeing a whole valley of them would be an unforgettable experience....
And apparantly it can be grown in full sun.

Edit: there is a link on that page to lilium.com, a site I regularly visit but never seen this species mentioned on thusfar... Should check more often I guess.

It is indeed a very open location but on has to be careful. Plants which are typical woodlanders at low levels like Pyrola rotundifolia may grow very well indeed in very exposed positions on mountainsides where temperatures never become very high and where there is abundant water supply from melting snow higher up. It might prefer woodland conditions when grown at low levels in Europe.
