When is C goulimyi Mani White - Mani White
« on: May 06, 2011, 12:16:19 PM »
Dear Crocophiles,
I have grown seeds collected from my C. goulimyi Mani White. Can I call these seedlings C. goulimyi Mani White? There's little chance that the corms were pollinated by anything other than my cluster of Mani White. Thanks Anita

Hi Anita.

You can call them 'Mani White' if your corms have been increased vegetatively.
Increased from seeds you will always have blue plants and intermediates,
looking different to the original plants, even if they have been pollinated with original pollen.

Hope this helps

Thanks Thomas. Yes it does help. As the seedlings are two years old I guess I'll have to wait a year or two before i see what kinds of flowers emerge. Anita

Even if they all flowered white, they're not strictly speaking 'Mani White' which is a clone (is it not, Thomas?) so even if all white, play safe with "ex 'Mani White.'"

Nothing to do wih C. goulimyi but I have to show this beauty, the pristine C. minimus albus which flowers here and in Australia a full 4 months before its purple counterparts. One corm last year has become two this year. Winter has not properly started yet so it's a late autumn crocus compared with the purple which flowers for me in Sept-Nov!
