Glasgow Show at Milngavie, Saturday 7th May 2011

Well, Ian and I were not able to go to the Glasgow show today....
but I hear that Cyril Lafong won the Forrest medal  "with a yellow daphne"  

There was a grand display from Elspeth Mackintosh on behalf of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, too, I'm told.... with a highly covetable Podophyllum "with silky red flowers" ..... now, I'm pleased to hear this news.... but I do hope that someone was there who had a working camera and will furnish pix at some point......... watching this space!!

Stan, thisis a great report..... so many super plants.... only worrying thing is how many of them would normally appear in the Aberdeen show... which isn't for another two weeks  Yikes!

John Lee and Bill Robinson the Show Secs  must have been pleased with the turnout... more than I expected after the variously very hot and very wet weather that Scotland has had lately!

Is there a chance to let me know something about the origin of the violet in the fourth pic and how it is labelled?
I received the same (or similar) plant from Hermann Fuchs from Hof/Germany some years ago!
It was determinated by an American friend as a Viola affinis hybrid !

It was a good show, although John and Bill were worried that they were going to have a poor showing but a lot of plants turned up on the day.
The Podophylum in the RBGE display was amazing. The leaves and flowers were as Maggi described them earlier.

But Maggi everyone was saying that the plants they had in this show would normally be at the Aberdeen show. Perhaps I shouldn't have told you that

Gerd, The violet is in the display of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, so I will ask Elspeth or John next week,  if someone else hasn't got a note  of it.
