Ian, whereabouts in the Dolomites were you based please?

Hi David we were based in Arabba which is just below the Pordoi pass which is very convenient for quite a good section of the Dolomites. We went with Colletts who have a wide selection of accomodation in the Area

Here are the last few. The third piccy showws Austrian WW1 defences above the Falzerego pass - what a place to spend the winter. The whole of this face is riddled with caves which must have pretty desperate in the winter weather.

very strange to see Geranium sylvaticum up a mountain. As the name suggests it should be in, light, woodland

Mark the Geranium grows well up above the Pordoi pass and is completely in the open - seriously exposed even.

It position is on the slope just below the first peak (to the left) on this photo below

Good morning Ian,
The unidentified little Daphne lookalike in your last posting i.e.  (Picture 4 ident please)?  is the gorgeous little Valeriana supina.  Hope this helps.

About seven times to the Dolomites now Ian....six as flower walk leaders and once as holidaymakers....we've also been to Austria three times, Switzerland twice and to Slovenia once....as well as 'beach' type holidays in other European and Mediterranean countries...you do tend to pick up the names as they are often well distributed across the Alps.  Though I can still EASILY forget the most common flowers when people ask.

Having a look on Google Earth I found, that the Dolomites are now in the
high resolution zone, with much more details visible that some weeks ago !
