Dactylorhiza - self preservation
« on: June 17, 2011, 04:56:58 PM »
AS  you will know from last month many of my Dactylorhiza in pots and ground died. In my raised bed it's as if someone stole them. There is nothing left. In the pots when I tugged the noses they came out with no roots and I dumped them. I forgot about the pots until last week when I went to recycle the pot contents. I was amazed to find tubers on 5 or 6 of the dying plants.

Here are some photos that show how the tubers has rotted away leaving a few stumps of roots.

If you every have dying Dacts dont be too quick to dump them

Mark

the question is will they grow again next year or is the disease in the new crown? I would keep them well away from any others you might have and when you detach the new tubers examine the crown to see if it is healthy. You will tell from this I am not optimistic.
