Crinum bulbispermum

Growing outside for a number of years.  Flowers never fully open.

Arnold, you need a different clone or strain.  Here is my [variabile x bulbispermum] blooming now.  The bulbispermum parent holds it flowers erect -- at least open and horizontal -- for at least the first day.  These are hardy outdoors as mature bulbs.

My Amaryllis belladonna x Crinum sp. should be flowering soon and have shown to be quite hardy here in Central Indiana   I must try these other plants as well!

Which Amarcrinum do you have?

It looks as if I'll get a good yield of seeds from my two very hardy C. bulbispermum, 'Mrs. Jordan's Red' and 'Mrs. Morris', which I crossed with each other a month ago.  Some of the seeds from these two have, in past years, come up as volunteers in the mulch around these plants.  That is very hardy, indeed!  I'll send most of these seeds to the PBS BX when they are fully ripe.  Note that neither of these "red" plants has flowers as red as my [variabile x bulbispermum] hybrids.

Seeds of [Mrs. Morris x Mrs. Jordan Red] and the reverse went off to the Pacific Bulb Society BX administrator (Dell Sherk) today.  There are not a whole lot of either cross.  The flowers of both Crinum parents are very similar, white with red bands.  The mature bulbs are hardy outdoors here in the open.  They even seed around a bit in the bed, with a few volunteer seedlings coming up through the mulch.  We are in USDA cold zone 5.
