Some pics from Zermatt
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:16:24 PM »
Just came to the end of eight days in Zermatt and have a few! pics to share.
These are mainly close ups but will try to sort out a few more over the next few days.

Pulsatilla apiifolia
Pulsatilla vulgaris
Aster alpinum
Senecio (I think)
Gentiana acaulis
Saxifraga oppositifolia
Paradisea liliastrum
Eritrichium nanum
Androsace alpinum - this is the one I had hoped to see. Yippee!!!! Grin

Lovely pics Johnny, bring back good memories of Zermatt.
Where did you see Pulsatilla vulgaris?  It might be Pulsatilla halleri which grows above Zermatt, on the way to Trift.  It was almost over when I was there.
I think the senecio is S. incanus which I saw at Gornergrat.
More pics please!

Thanks for the update Tony - the pulsatilla was at Sunnega and the Senecio at Gornergrat.
A few more pics before my battery expires:

Campanula cenisia
Chamorchis alpina
Gentiana verna
Phyteuma humile
Saxifraga oppositifolia
Linaria alpina
Eidelweiss - the only one we saw
Matterhorn reflections.

Great pix, John, keep them coming (where's Shelagh's pix?).  Your Sax labelled oppositifolia in the last batch looks more like Sax biflora.

There's usually a lot more than that  ;D (mainly Japanese), all photographing or being photographed at that classic site with the chocolate box picture of the Matterhorn reflected in the lake

From the foliage which looks a little lime encrusted I'd say it might be Saxifraga x kochii the hybrid between S. biflora and S. oppositifolia.

Was the weather always that good Johnny?  Hope so!

Although there were a lot of people in Zermatt at times we could 'get away' on the mountains easily enough. If I had spotted the group of people in the pic I could have waited!!!! :P
As  for idents Tony and Diane, I will post a few more pics later which might help. Thanks for the assist.
Diane, I am sure Shelagh will be posting at the first opportunity - I had the advantage of the laptop.  8)
The weather was absolutely brilliant with just one poor day which really was not too bad and gave us a welcome day off.
We stayed at the Butterfly Hotel and had great rooms, great food, great wine ---- errrrr, that's it really. Can't remember anything after the wine ;D

It's OK Maggi.
If you look really carefully you can still see them - half way up the Matterhorn! :o
