Not Saponaria lutea...

But what is it?  It seems to me like some sort of Cephalaria perhaps?  The flower stalks are about 20" tall; the basal rosette is ~1" tall, and about 3 1/2" inches across (just grown from seed last year).  The flower stalks have one pair of lanceolate opposite leaves, and there is another pair immediately under the inflorescence.  The inflorescence seems to be somewhat sticky (judging from the unfortunate flies that met their fate there).  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Some sort of Silene, Lori?  They're common english name is "Catchfly"........ :-\

Acckk, yes... apart from me ignoring the obvious clues, that seems much more likely than Cephalaria!  I'll do some hunting around...

I'd have guessed Silene otities, but the petals on yours are too full, I think and it looks like the flowerswill stay in a ball, rather than developing in tiers up the stem  :-\
