Show questions- SRGC 2012
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:32:47 PM »
The latest mailing  of the club journal and secretary's pages  confirms that the Highland show in Nairn is now part of the national circuit - good news - but that the Stirling show in Dublane in March is no more -not good news. However Stirling  members are still involved in the very successful early bulb day in February. As the Nairn show will be in late April there will be now be no   show in Scotland in March but three in April on 14th, 21st and 28th. Both Blackpool and Hexham are in March but many members don't get down that far. Is there any mileage in considering  whether  a show could move from April to the previous month? At one time I think the Edinburgh  show was in March but moved later I understand  to switch with Stirling? Any further switch would of course have to be acceptable to the Edinburgh  group and especially the activists  who do the work for what is a currently a very successful early April show.

Good point about the show changes, Stan. It would be the committee of Show Secretaries, convenor Barry Caudwell, who would  be the first port of call on this matter, though doubtless it is something that President Liz and the Council will give thought to.

Some show halls need to be booked long in advance and that is just one of the reasons why a change of timing can be very tricky to achieve. Then there is the difficulty of "abandoning" an established local audience for a show, that has learned to expect a show at a particular time of year.... it's not an easy question.

My new Journal arrived yesterday and it seems to me to be a especially good one. Between times I think the Forum covers everything but the Journal adds even more wondrous information and pictures. In particular, I think the paper quality is very fine, heavier than previously. The Journal must be up there with the best-produced magazines in the world surely.

What a shame.  I suppose he'll be outside sunning himself while we huddle in the church hall.... can't wait though....

Warm and WET seems to be the thing in Auckland this summer, while we in the south are basking in high 20s low 30s, but ne'er a drop of rain in sight. I believe some is due at the end of the week though, thank goodness.

Its cold and windy here Lesley.  Your weather sounds much nicer.  But I did get out and cut down the foliage from my hellebores today, and have done the pots ready to sow seed in the greenhouse.  The wind finally let up a bit today.  Its been dreadful.
