It's certainly the beginning of the fast and furious Daffofil season here!
Narcissus bulbocodium seedling? similar to others from Glenbrook Bulb Farm but earlier than the ones I already have -it appeared near a clump of "Smarple" (or "Kholmes" - the label is lost )

Here's some pics of Narcissus 'Polly's Pearl' from Bill Dijk. He gave me 10 dried bulbs. I planted them outside and thought I'd compare with 10 'Paper Whites' bought from "The Warehouse". The latter produced 1 flowering stem! In the UK I'd have taken them back! Bill's 10 bulbs have produced 10 flowering stems, some of which are still to open.

Where does the name 'Mitimoto come from Fermi? I had it a couple of years ago from Marcus. The flower is huge, a full 6cms across the open end.

Crumbs, Lesley! Mine never get that big - you're not thinking of Mondieu, are you? Mitimoto is the bicolor.

I might have said mondieu, but would more likely have said core blimey!

I'd better check back with Marcus then. It's what he sent as Mitimoto but My God would be appropriate. And it's not a bicolour, all bright yellow, same shade as 'Atlas Gold.'

"Mitimoto" is one of Rod Barwick's "Little Detective"series - probably in reference to Mickey Moto. "Mondieu" is also in the series as it is what Inspector Cluseau (also one of the series) was always exclaiming.
"Mondieu" is in flower now for me


but "Mitimoto" is usually much later.

Thanks Fermi, I don't know Mickey Moto. My daff is much yellower than your 'Mondieu.' As I said, the same shade as 'Atlas Gold.' All my daffs are early this year and so are crocuses.

Do you still want some seed of Aristolochia longa? (Was it you who asked???) I have a packet here ready now.

Yes, Lesley, I did ask you last time and it's "allowed" so when you have time to send some I'd love to try. When's the best time to sow it?

Your "Mitimoto" is possibly just a bit vigorous this year and that's why it's so large. It's not all easy to distinguish the "petal" as white but it is officially a "10 W-Y"

I thought you were supposed to be knee deep in snow this weekend?

I can't get over what a good Narcissus is 'Jumblie.' Can't remember where I got it but for years it has performed very well, always entirely reliable with flowering and increase. Was it an Alec Grey hybrid? Those older, early hybrids like 'Jumblie' and 'Tete-a-Tete' can't be beaten by more modern forms.

I went out a few minutes ago Anthony and it's just up to my toes so far but plenty more on the way according to the forecast and from looking at the sky. Kees is in town. I'm 18 kms out from the town centre so am a country cousin so to speak, and at about 350m altitude. Susan (More) will be well into the snow by now I should think. She's in town too but in the hill suburbs.

I have buds on Frits pontica, elwesii, recurva well advanced, far too early this year, and a flower almost out on my single F. alburyana, so I feel a "Fritillaria in the South" thread coming on.
