Butterfield catalogue 2011
«
on:
August 05, 2011, 12:07:58 PM »
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone received Mr Butterfield's 2011 Pleione catalogue...
I asked for it last year, made an order and I though he would have sent it again this year... If it already arrived to someone else I have to write him to ask for a copy...
thanks

Hi,
I asked Ian and he tells me that anyone who buys from him one year gets the new catalogue for the next year.
He sends this out in September, and it will be called "Pleiones 2011-2012".

Hi Maren,
I think this answers my question
If I'm not wrong last year I received it in July... So I though I missed it this year.
thanks a lot, I'll wait for September

Thanks for the catalogue David, very nice reading - owe you one.
Do any one know, weather it is possible to make a direct banktransfere to Mr. Butterfield ore pay by paypal. Making out a check in Denmark that can be cashed in UK is a pretty expensive thing.
Can anybody help with information on that.
Kind regards Erling

Unfortunately, Ian doesn't accept Pay-pal or the Bank-transfer. Only check or cash. Sorry.

Hello,
I'm a German Pleione enthusiast and I have wire-transferred funds to Ian Butterfield. He will give his account information to anybody who wants to do this. He only asks to add 10 pounds to cover his bank charges. These charges occur when you use a SEPA transfer and they are for the currency conversion. The only way to circumvent these charges is by using a FX broker service, which I do.
So, go ahead and contact Ian by letter or fax or give him a call. Don't be afraid because of your rough English, he is a nice person. Something he doesn't like though is when his catalogue is distributed via the internet. He wants customers to get in touch with him the old-fashioned way and order a copy.
Best regards,
Kai

What Ian does not want is his catalogue being published on the net, which I don't believe it has been. This is mainly due to the volume of orders he would then receive and not be able to complete. Sending someone an email copy is no different to showing your next door neighbour a paper one (Which Ian agreed with after I asked him if it was OK to send it to a few selected people).
I have just got off the phone with Ian to apologise if I had done something wrong, which he laughed about and said don't be daft.

Another way to order from Ian is via somebody else (a friend) in the UK that does use paypal. You can send the list and payment to them with a little extra to cover the paypal costs. Some counties you can also send as a personal payment instead of goods and there is no paypal charge. Your order can then be sent to Ian and he can ship directly to you.

Did I hear my name mentioned?
I am quite happy to receive payments for Ian by paypal in £ Sterling, and I pass them on to him by writing him a cheque. He is OK with that arrangement.
The Paypal payment has to be made in such a way that it does not cost me anything. Once I lose money on this, I lose interest.
If you want to try it, send me a message. My Paypal email address is on my website.

Hi Maren
No I was not actually referring to one of Ian's friends (like yourself) but suggesting if the person outside the UK had friends within the UK they could to do the ordering for them after receiving the payment through paypal.
That is very good of you to offer and may help several Euro buyers as it's far easier than going to the bank to arrange transfers or Sterling cheques.
My bank charge me £25 to send money out of the UK!!!!

Use this service to send money out of the country 99p for 5 day service or £7 for 2 days. The max you can send is £2500. I have used it on numerous occasions.
http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/send-money-now-order.aspx
Beats using a bank.
Also this can be used to pay from abroad into the UK.

Hi Neil
Thanks for the information. Never knew about that service and although the exchange rate is not as good as you'd probably get from the bank, it's still a far cheaper method than paying £25.00.
Thanks

When I did it it for sending Euros I got about 3 cents less per pound than the spot price.
In factI have just checked and its offering me €1.117 for £1 against €1.1145, which is what it is trading at the moment.

Hello,
this is the service I use, just for comparison:
http://www.xe.com/fx
When you sign up they want a lot of information including proper personal identification. Then they'll call you to verify that you're a good guy and not planning any money laundering. Sending money is free of charge when you use normal ETF service.
Their current £/€ conversion rate is 1.1282 which is less than 2 cents away from the spot rate.
