repotting Cyclamen
« on: September 01, 2007, 06:15:01 PM »
Today I knocked C. africanum, thanks Sandy!, from it's pot. The roots are totally dried out. Do I trim these off or leave them in place?

At last years discussion weekend Sandy advised me to buy a couple of C. graecum from Jacques Amand. One has died, Sandy you owe me!, but the other dispite never growing new roots has new leaves coming. How do I look after it now?

re all the  other Cyclamen that I have ignored all summer that now have shrivelled corms what do I do?

See Sandy Leven's article on Cyclamen graecum in the main site:
http://www.srgc.org.uk/monthfeature/nov2004/content.html
Sandy gives brief, but handy, cultivation notes about three-quarters of the way down the page!

I should also mention that Glassford Sprunt has recently made some major additions to the Journal Index.... the result of a GREAT DEAL OF WORK, all voluntary, I may add, which has made a huge difference to the workability of the Index. You can find the new, improved index here:
http://www.srgc.org.uk/index/SRGC%20Introduction%20&%20Index.pdf
Now included altogether are a code to the Journal numbers (which have changed their numbering methods over the years) and indices by Author and Subject... thus, I am easily able to tell you that in the CD of all issues of "The Rock Garden", volumes 1 to 113, you will find, in the Volume 73 file, which is of Journal part 4 of Volume XVIII, of January 1984, articles by Kath Dryden on the Cultivation of Hardy Cyclamen from page 332 and by Ray Johnstone on Cyclamen cultivation beginning page 323.

Thanks, Glassford: where would this Club be without you and all your work over the years?

Thanks for the note on Sandy's article Maggi. I had a whole flat of Cyclamen graecum seedlings that I left outside just a wee bit too long and...I LOST EVERY ONE! Made me sick. I have since picked up a blooming sized corm/tuber and am waiting for it  to leaf out. I will definitely do seed again sometime. Sandy's pictures show why everyone should be growing this plant.

First, many thanks to the person who has created the amazing index to the Rock Garden.

I noticed whilst reading this thread that there are CDs of the back issues of the Rock Garden.  Can anyone tell me how much it costs to purchase them?  I certainly would like to have it as a reference tool if I can afford it.

And third, the cyclamen mirabile that I have failed to grow for two years is now showing signs of growth, all thanks to your advice Maggi!  Now I've succeeded in growing this one, I may even be tempted to buy more!

I hope Glassford is cheered by the thanks expressed for his efforts... sometimes he must have felt he was beavering away to no end during his long task!
Chris, the CD has all the Journals from No. 1 to No. 113 and was given to members as a treat the other year.
I will gladly take the credit for your Cyclamen mirabile success, even if I shouldn't! Lovely aren't they!

Pot 'em, water 'em! There was advice about their cultivation in Sandy's article about C. graecum that I gave you the links for in an earlier post... do you never listen to me?
