NZAGS Show 2011
« on: September 17, 2011, 08:32:05 AM »
We had a successful turn out at our show in Christchurch today considering the crazy weather and aftershocks!!! Here are a few shots of some exhibits that caught my eye, the full low down and other highlights including the top table winners will be available in our next bulletin. Better hurry to join up!

This is just a taste of what we have on show, so if you are in the vicinity of Christchurch tomorrow, drop on in for a look. Closes at 4pm.
Cheers.

How humbling it is to see the spirit shown in Christchurch as the folks who have been through so much with the earthquake and continuing aftershocks have nonetheless managed to gather all these great flowers for a super show.
Inspiring to witness, even at twelve thousand miles distance - congratulations to you all!
Thanks Doug for bringing us this glimpse of what you people have achieved..... what a bit of luck you've still got a smart hall standing to hold the event !

Brilliant Doug, for us show addicts for whom Spring is but a distant dream. Particularly like the cut flowers in beer bottles....twice the pleasure :D

What a great achievement after everything you've been through - wonderful plants and a great show.
I think the Scottish Rugby Team are due to visit you all in Canterbury before their next match so hope you'll be supporting them - except when we play the All Blacks of course.  And well done to the Irish - saw the first half and thought they were in with a good shout of beating the Aussies.

I couldn't go up for the Show this year because of having to work on the 4 RWC weekends but will be there next year I hope.

I hope the Arum creticum had Edna Parkyn's name on the cards?

I may be possible to find out what the blue primula was, it seeming to be entered by the same person who put up a few others there, nicely set off with spaghnum moss.

Both the Scottish and the English teams have been well received in Christchurch. All these men have so much else on their minds that it is great they take time out to support and encourage where they can. Now of course, we all feel for the Welsh team whose countrymen have been devastated by yet another mining tragedy, while our own of last year is currently in the process of enquiry as to cause and after effects.

The Irish team played like demons and had great support from the crowd. In the stands there seemed to be much more greenery than yellow. Their win in Auckland will ensure a terrific game in Dunedin first weekend in October. The stadium is fully booked and all accomodation in the city, likewise.

Our own Otago Alpine Garden Group show is next weekend. It's run as part of the local Hort Soc spring show and covers only a couple of benches. A few pics later maybe.
