Maggi - yes pirates do eat cake! It was a good evening despite the fireworks failing to light because of the damp. My wife festooned the garden with night-lights in jam jars and it created a good fun atmosphere. A certain amount of drunkenness ensued!

Apologies by the way to Peter and Cliff for any distraction from what sounds a very good day!

I shall do so with pleasure, Cliff... the SRGC, as ever, is keen to assist sister organisations with publicity and support for events.

Knowing those two they will be happy to hear of a party with such fun celebrations.... and what about the treasure chest cake filled with golden coins??!!! Superb!

And all taking place in a beautiful garden that give pleasure every day with its plants and also serves the needs of the family.... just the ticket!  8)

I had a great time in Birmingham and I hope I inspired some people to try a sandbed.

Hello Peter your talk was certainly inspiring and the plants you can grow outside is certainly a testament to this way of growing. Thanks for coming all this way to show us. It is a good job that I don't have the amount of space you have to grow plants as I think I am past moving the hundreds of tonnes of soil and replacing it with the same amount of sand :o ;). I will have to restrict my efforts to something a little smaller. Thanks again  for a great talk and great photos. I hope I can visit your garden and see all of this in the flesh for myself

Probably better keeping your clothes ON, Ian ... you wouldn't want to frighten the natives!   :D

How many alpine growers spend time up to their knees in mud!! It gives me hope for tackling some of the wilder parts of the garden which I have put off to this winter. There is a lot of hard graft in gardening but it really does produce results!

Sounds great - sorry I won't be able to get there, Diane.
I wonder if they'd like to do a reprise in Australia sometime?  :-\ We could chip in for the air-fare (would they still trust Qantas?  ::) )
cheers

I've only just spotted this remark, Fermi ... the reply is; "Oh Yes please!!!!"   :D :D :D
