I've had a note from Trevor Jones, about the terrestrial orchid shown in the earlier pages, named as
Pterostylis cocciniaHere's the note, sent last week when we had just left to go to Glasgow, so only picked up today:
"Hi Ian & Maggie
Just reading the comments on the Ponteland show & there is a picture of
Pterostylis coccinia, someone identified it as that & noted the one I had put on was a different name.
Could something be said please, as the new name is
Diplodium for that sp. It was explained to me that
Pterostylis curta & the others all flower from the centre of the rosette, but
Pterostylis coccinia sends out a runner & flowers away from the rosette, I hope this makes sense & I have explained it properly. Other than that it's those pesky botanists keeping themselves in work!. All the best
