South Wales AGS Show- 2012
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:48:40 PM »
I enjoyed the South Wales AGS show today.

The weather was wet on the journey down, but the sun came out late afternoon.

Don Peace won the Farrer Medal with Galanthus 'Sophie North'.

It was a good potful, but there were several other slighty smaller pots of Sophie North in the show all looking good.

Thanks for sharing these pics with us Rob. Obviously some lovely plants on display.  Seems to be very few people in attendance. Was this the case or are the pics somewhat misleading in this regard?

Thanks Rob, should have been there but, alas, it wasn't possible. More pictures to come? You don't realise how addicted you are to shows and show plants until you haven't seen any for 4 months :P

You are so right Martin, I was seriously thinking of going and didn't. Now , seeing Rob's pictures. I just soo wish I had. What an idiot I am! Isn't it just the feel of the hall and the anticipation of what will be seen? 1/3 of each year with no shows .... I should have gone! :( :(

Can I echo Martin's comments?  Addiction isn't too strong a word.   :D

I think the locals go for their lunch. It was busy when I arrived at 1pm, but only the diehards were left by 3.30pm

I reckon I could give that pot of snowdrops a home. ;D ;D ;D

Am wondering if the pic with the tiny pots are plants for sale?

Thanks for the pics, Rob, they're about the closest I will ever get to an Alpine plant show.

Fantastic to see those pictures so quickly! I haven't been to the South Wales Show for a few years but it would be nice to go again and catch all these really early flowers. Wonderful display of photographs on the stage. Maybe someone can take a picture of Rachel when she's not looking at Kent! The Shows are addictive even for those of us who don't show very much, but it is a shame that more gardeners don't get to know about them.

Thanks for posting those for us.
It says a lot about our fellow forum members that the shot of the cakes has as many or more 'hits' as the ones of plants! ;D

Many congratulations to Don Peace for that lovely Farrer winning pot of Galanthus 'Sophie North' and for that pan of Colchicum kesselringii... sper. A good day, Don!

The white Iris unguicularis is very striking. and the Narcissus hybrid from Bob And Rannveig is a little treat.... so many other nice things too ( and I don't just mean the  cakes!)

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to share, Rob, really appreciated.  8) :-*
