Early Spring Show 2012 in Harlow
« on: March 04, 2012, 04:46:34 PM »
We made a hop with a busload of VRV (Flemish Rock Garden Club) members to Harlow this year : 46 people on the bus !
We had a grand day and for many of our members, it was a first time ever visit to a Show - I can tell you one thing : jaws dropped !!  :D

1) This six pan entry by Bob and Rannveigh Wallis hid the best plant in show
2) Corydalis darwasica - best plant in show was not deemed worthy of a Farrer medal though...  :(
3) This pot of Galanthus "E.A. Bowles" (gosh, what giant flowers !!  :o :o) looked astonishing - an entry by Monksilver Nurseries.
4) This is what the trunk of a bus looks like, when a bunch of belgian and dutch enthousiasts leave the sales area from an AGS show...  ;D

I'll try to post some more pictures later on.

Luc  - Happy hear you had such a successful raid on England.  The bus trunk rather resembles David & Brian's car trunk on a normal day what?

Nobody bought much then, Luc?    ;D

So pleased that you had a wonderful day ... and I wager the organisers were THRILLED to welcome you all!!!

We just bought a few bits and pieces Cliff...  ;D  ... and not only the organisers looked happy... I did notice some nurserymen (and -women) with broad smiles...  ;D

Here are some images of people and benches (with quite some gaps I must admit... but then, it IS a very difficult season I guess !)

Behave yourself John ;)

Glad you had a good day Luc and the VRV visitors.  I was disappointed not to get there but have had a series of reports from various friends :D

Fantastic!  Proof that you can have a "garden" even if you have only the tiniest space!

Did the bus cross in the tunnel or on a ferry? I wonder a ferry could cope!?????

We had taken no risks Maggi - the tunnel seemed safer...  ;D

Despite the difficult season, there were some quite excellent Dionysia's around...

Sorry I don't have the names of the exhibitors, but the names of Nigel Fuller and Paul and Jill Ranson were definitely present !

1) 3 pan entry
2) Dionysia 'Ewesley legacy'
3) D. curviflora x tapetodes
4) D. "Monika" - looked marvelous and caught some sunrays
5) D. "Tess" also caught my eye

Some more :

1) Crocus tommasinianus 'Ruby Giant'
2) Cyclamen coum f. album
3) Cyclamen persicum
4) Hyacinthella dalmatica
5) Primula allionii seedling - a very striking dark fuchsia coloured clone - much darker than my camera could show..
6) Iberis pruittii candolleana - not at it's peak yet - but a very neat and compact little shrublet.

Maybe more later !  ;)

You can't miss it if it's out and about Luc.  Maybe Mark's Tall in the green here.  ;)

Looks as though you were all trying to solve our little Balance of Payments problems Luc. Bet the £ shoots up in value when the markets open tomorrow. You could well be in the running to be the second Belgian President of the European Council. Got to be better than the first one ;D
