Indeed it was an excellent show, congratulations to Peter and his merry band of helpers for once again making sure everything went particularly well on this occasion - and welcome Alan to this forum. Here's to many more successful years!!! As a member of the local group for some years I always try to get to get to the Hexham Show and see many friends there. Always a wonderful array of plants on display, but the only thing is that I never do well myself, competition is always very stiff with the many accomplished growers around!

"The Butcher?" Not of plants surely? ;D Is this the great Alan Furness who grows our natives so much better than we do, especially celmisias? If so, a warm welcome to the Forum Alan. :)

Lesley, I strongly suspect 'The Butcher' refers to the day job of Mr Newton and not Mr Furness

Narcissus segovia
Ophrys tenduradinifora (too long a name, probably got it wrong!) It should be O. tenthredinifera. Oops, must learn to write.
Paraquilegia anemonoides
Primula albenensis
Primula Mars
Primula petolotii
Sanguinaria canadensis
Sempervivum cilosum
Trillium pusilum
Viola brevistipulata

And that's all folks

Hi Alan, great to hear the celebrations went well... Madam Prezz Liz is here at the moment and I read your message to her when it arrived.  She thoroughly enjoyed herself on Saturday, of course.

We were discussing the super "Ruby" themed display... so clever and such fun, too.

We've had a very pleasant evening: Pam Eveleigh, the SRGC Travelling Speaker was our guest in Aberdeen tonight - great talk on the Flora of Alberta - and Liz drove Pam up today so we had two special guests at our Group meeting. (we should have arranged a cake!  ;D)

If we hadn't been going out for the meeting we would have replied sooner :)

Thanks Martin, best to get the Alans right. :)

Here's a little something from the south, to  commemorate the Northumberland Group's 40th anniversary. In full growth it is about 12cms high.

What a wonderful Show (from someone who is an inveterate gardener rather than exhibitor - maybe the bug is beginning to bite!). But why is it that I am so keen on Mrs Miggins coffee shop? It just sounds as though it would be a great place!

It would be very nice to visit some of the Northern Shows (having never ventured further than the Loughborough Show), and it's a great treat for us in Kent that so many people bring their plants down here. I am grateful to be able to see all the photos here. Thank you.

I know you've seen pics of the display Mala Janes produced for the ruby anniversary, but I managed to talk her into posing in front of it for me as well.  Here's the result.  Also one pic of one of our plant sales stalls.

Saturday saw the 40th Anniversary show in Hexham - a joint SRGC/AGS event.
I am sure there will be lots of pics on the way, but I cannot resist flagging up the six mini-gardens on display.
Top of the heap? Peter Hoods effort which was featured last week and which deservedly got the red sticker for the second time this year.
Many congratulations Peter - 'the new kid on the block'.
