Edinburgh & Lothians SRGC Show 2012
« on: April 09, 2012, 12:21:53 PM »
THE EDINBURGH AND LOTHIANS SHOW
Saturday 14 April   1030 to 1600hrs
Show Hall opens at noon
PLANT SHOW                SEEDS                  BOOKS
NURSERY STALLS        SUNDRIES        TEAS    & CAKES      TOMBOLA

FAIRMILEHEAD PARISH CHURCH HALL
Frogston Road West, Fairmilehead, Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Group’s annual plant show is held on behalf of the Scottish Rock Garden Club. It enables the Group and the Club to show the public beautiful and interesting plants and to share these treasures.

We need your support for the show to make sure it is a success.  So please tell everyone you know about the Show: tell all your friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, what a brilliant display of plants there will be and bring them along.

There are other ways you can help:

Bring some plants for the Show benches. If you have a plant that is looking good but don’t know how to enter it into the Show just telephone and we will help you. We’d really like every local club member to enter at least one plant to make it the best show yet.

If you have shown before, telephone your entries to Ian & Carole Bainbridge on (0131) 445 3268 in the week before the Show, or e-mail them to bainbridi@aol.com. Full details are in the Club Yearbook and Show Schedules. Please, the more plants the better the show.

Bring plants for the Club sales stall: you can either donate them to the Club, or offer them for sale on a 50:50 basis.  We need lots of plants to satisfy the public.  Please phone Watt Russell on 01875 610245 for further details

Bring baking and refreshments for the teas: please bring home baking.  We really do need lots of help to prepare and serve food and drinks, as well as clearing tables. Please consider giving even just one hour of your time – it will make a substantial difference. It will also allow our hard pressed band of volunteers some time to see the show. Contact Elspeth Mackintosh 0131 554 3240 or E.Mackintosh@rbge.org.uk.

Help on the door and tombola: if you can spare an hour or have suitable prizes to offer please contact Mike Hicks on (0131) 335 3764.

Buy things while you’re there!  Don’t forget that there will be six trade nurseries as well as the Group plant stall, seeds for sale, the SRGC bookstall and a tombola.

Access to the plant sales area is from 1030hrs: the Show hall opens at noon, so you have plenty of time for coffee, cakes and plant buying.

Go on, please give Showing a try and make this the best show yet .......... remember £10 prize for new exhibitors!

This spring  the weather has been particularly changeable going from very hot to cold winds and snow. Most of my plants live outside but I have been putting some of them on the floors of the two greenhouses to protect them from the wind, snow and rain then when the weather changes back outside into shade to hold back those that are in full flower. Note that the same rhododendron is in both greenhouses as the two pictures were take either side of a move of pots.  Yesterday I left most of them under cover so they  were nearly roasted when the sun came out and I was elsewhere - the tribulations of gardening. It will be interesting  to see how many make it to the show this Saturday.

Stan

I'm sitting here in the dining room with tulipa and ipheons trying to ensure that all the flowers are open for Saturday's show! So far this week we've had snow, leaden skies, gales and heavy, heavy rain but no sun! You watch come Saturday it will be glorious and we'll all be inside stewarding, manning the plant stall/entrance desk or running the tombola!

You have a great show there all by yourself Stan. :)

I wish you'd posted a picture Frazer of your pots in the dining room. I could have shown it to Roger to help justify the large number of seed pots (I mean pots of harvested but not yet cleaned seeds) on our dining table.

I think Edrom  are attending- the plant sales are in a separate hall so you can easily  access them while the show is closed for judging.

Thank you Stan ,

my hope was to find a list of all nurseries who selling plants on this show ...

The reason for my question is that a nice person will buy something for me from Edrom and send it me to Germany  ;D

Best wishes
Hans

Hans,
Edrom will not be there. They are going to be at the AGS North Midland (Chesterfield) show this year - it's their year off (one in three) at Edinburgh.

Some snaps of the show starting  with some Edinburgh group  worthies setting things  up on the Friday evening - the tables are hired in and soon assembled,   covered  with material and local members  start putting their plants on the benches

That picture of Watt with his wheeled mini garden is priceless. ;)

It is not clear why the presence of the SRGC should deprive  zumba enthusiasts of their favour pastime -  the two messages seem contradictory -more snaps tomorrow of plants and  people
