Helianthemum canum

A few or more years ago someone kindly looked for seeds of Helianthemum canum for me while they were visiting the Burren. This was in November. A few seeds came my way. Only two germinated but I tortured the seedlings for a couple of years in plug trays. When I did plant them beside a lump of tufa a planted them side by side because I expected one or both to die. Both have done well especially this year. Here are a few of the flowers

Does anyone know how or when to take Helianthemum cuttings?

I'd be inclined to try some around now Mark, in a sandy substrate.

You could try some now but better success is probable in late Aug / Sept as fresh, non-flowering shoots are easier and better. Flowering shoots (like most of them now, even if they are not obviously flowering shoots just yet) will root but never seem to make as good plants.

So hedge your bets -  a few now and more later.

Yes, this roots well and quite quickly from autumn material, still reasonably soft. I do most herbaceous things (though this is really sub-shrubby) from softish tip cuttings of new, after flowering growth. This is a lovely plant for the edge of a trough or, no doubt, a crevice. I didn't realize it was Irish.

I think my plant came as H. c. balcanicum so maybe it's widespread through Europe?

Lesley it probably is found across Europe but over here, as far as I know, it's only found in the Burren

I have a question for seeding conditions..have you an expermimental short list of seeding condition for me  (a protocol) ?
