Corydalis hemidicentra germinating - now what?
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:13:25 PM »
I have some seedlings of Corydalis hemidicentra that have germinated in the past couple of weeks. I wonder if someone could give me some advices in how to keep them going. I do not have so much experience in growing this types of Corydalis - at least not from seed  :-\

The seeds were sown in 2008 and was obtained from Vojtech Holbech that listed this species in his seed list 2007/2008 (I think). The seeds were collected in Beima Shan - Yunnan, probably in autumn 2007.

It would be so great to see this wonderful species in flower one day  ;)

I don't think many people have any experience with this species Geir.
Best advice is kept them growing as long as possible this year and give some potassium feeds to help the tuber build.

Thanks for the advice Ian :D

I also had a chat with Henrik at the botanical garden in Gothenborg to day. He also mentioned that there are not much information or experience in growing this species. I'll keep them going in the seed pot for at least one more year, and if I can grow them successfully until they are big enough for repotting I might try a couple in my scree in the open garden as well. But I realise that just to have the seedlings might be the closest I will get to grow this species  ::)

Patience is surely a virtue - Geir Moen reports on the latest news of this rare Corydalis.... pix  by Geir  from Facebook

"Finally, after 9 years

Corydalis hemidicentra from seeds collected by Vojtech Holubec back in 2007, germinated in 2009, flowering in 2016. Luckily I had some other things to do in between  ;D

(Ian, do you remember my question concerning these seedlings in the SRGC forum back in 20?? - well, it worked out just fine)"

It is a very special plant. Looks very great! (But Geir can't have slugs in his garden ;) )
