Impulse buy - Ptilotus 'Joey'
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:56:10 PM »
On impulse I bought a plant from ASDA yesterday - Ptilotus exaltatus 'Joey'.

The label said hardy and for outdoor planting. Research shows it probably isnt hardy because it comes from Australia.

Has anyone grown this before now?

When the swifts arrive empty the green house

ASDA also have a brilliant range of 'alpine' and small Dianthus named and unnamed.

They also have a lovely tall but probably non hardy Ornithogallum with tall spikes of off white flowers. Each petal has a small pale brown mark at the base. Sadly no botanical name.

Funnily enough, I bought one on impulse a few months ago as well! ;D It's survived -4oC so far already! It's planted in a sand-bed to see if that will help prolong its life,
cheers
