Orange Fruit
« on: July 06, 2012, 04:36:48 PM »
Does anyone have any idea about this.
Seen last weekend at Cragside in Northumberland - in the wild garden near the stream. Several fruits on bushy growth at about 2ft/0.7m high which I would normally take to be raspberries (Rubus idaeus), but I've never seen them this colour before, normally the wild ones I've seen go from green and inedible to red and delicious.  ;)
Could it conceivably be a garden escape?

I would say almost certainly Peter. There are numerous orange fruited raspberry varieties on the market. Most are delicious ;D

There are yellow flowered wild raspberries near where I live but I don't think they are ripe yet.

It does look very edible Peter. Could you try it and report back?

It's a long way to go for three raspberries Lesley, probably a 40 mile round trip.  :o
As much as I like raspberries.........
